The best beaches and coves on the Costa Brava
With 240 kilometres stretching from Blanes to the border with France in Portbou, the Costa Brava has amazingly beautiful beaches and coves all along its coast.
From fine sandy beaches and shallow waters, perfect for families, to coves hidden amidst vegetation and crystal clear waters with rocky bottoms, there are loads of options to choose from; whether you're looking for peace and quiet in the sun, or action packed water sports.
L'Estartit beach is a long beach divided into three sections: the main beach, Griells beach and Pletera beach, where dogs are allowed. Both the swimming areas and the areas for sports are well marked by buoys. It's quite a shallow beach with fine sand. You can do water sports on some of its stretches, or enjoy the beauty of the protected area of the Empordà wetlands (Aiguamolls de l'Empordà).
Further north is Cala Calella, a small rocky cove 30 minutes from L'Estartit port; Cala Pedrosa, a small cove snuggled in an idyllic corner in the middle of pine trees and rocks; Cala Ferriol, perfect for snorkelling, and Cala Montgó which can be reached on foot along the seaside path, or by car going through l'Escala.
